TIMELINE
Student life has been adversely affected by the closure of the U.S. educational system during the COVID-19 pandemic beyond just classrooms, friends, and extracurricular activities. As a result, an estimated 55 million children and teenagers lack access to the support they need to navigate adolescence and cope with trauma. It is no secret that mental health problems have become more prevalent in 2020, especially for young adults and teens. The psychological effects of the pandemic will likely affect a generation that already suffers from a growing number of depression disorders, anxiety disorders, and suicides. A key component of achieving healthy mental health for adolescents and young adults is building resilience. Resilience is an essential component of human strength because it allows people to cope with hardships and overcome them. A lack of mental acuity can result in people rapidly becoming overwhelmed and turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms. The confidence and support of resilient people allow them to overcome challenges and work through their issues.
